Tractor / Power-Only Service

Tractor and power-only service on Vancouver Island

Island-side tractor and driver to pick up your trailer or container, complete the delivery and coordinate the return, so nobody has to cross with the equipment.

Your trailer or container is on the Island, or about to be, and it needs a tractor. Kattz provides the power to pick it up, complete the delivery and coordinate the return, so you do not have to send a driver and a tractor across the Strait and back.

When you need this

Have the trailer? Need the tractor?

  • 01Your trailer or container is arriving at Duke Point or Swartz Bay on the commercial barge.
  • 02You are a Mainland carrier who would otherwise pay a tractor and driver to cross to the Island and back.
  • 03A loaded trailer or a container on a chassis is sitting at an Island yard and needs to move.
  • 04You need the empty back on the Mainland without a second trip.

How it works

From the first call to the last handoff

  1. Step 1

Tell us the trailer and the sailing

Equipment, arrival terminal, and where it is going.

  2. Step 2

Our tractor meets it on the Island side

Pin-to-pin pickup at the terminal or the yard.

  3. Step 3

We deliver to the receiving appointment

Confirmed with the consignee before the trailer leaves the deck.

  4. Step 4

    We return the equipment

Back to the barge terminal for a return sailing, or to the yard you name.

On Vancouver Island

This is the Island half of a drop-trailer move. The trailer crosses alone; Kattz is the tractor that is waiting for it.

FAQ

Questions about this service

What is power-only trucking?

Power-only means the carrier supplies the tractor and the driver to move a trailer that belongs to someone else. On Vancouver Island it usually means meeting a trailer that arrived on the commercial barge and delivering it to the receiver, then returning the empty.

Can you return the empty trailer to the Mainland?

Yes. Kattz coordinates the return sailing so the equipment goes back the way it came, without a driver riding with it.

Do you move containers on chassis as well as trailers?

Yes. Pin-to-pin container moves on the Island, including pickups at the Duke Point and Swartz Bay barge terminals, are part of the same service.
