Port & Container Drayage

Port and container drayage from Vancouver's terminals

Terminal reservations, port pickup and the container's next leg, coordinated from the Vancouver-area port facilities to Lower Mainland receivers and Vancouver Island.

From the terminal reservation to the next leg of the shipment, Kattz coordinates the details that keep a container moving, whether it is bound for a Lower Mainland receiver, a transload, or Vancouver Island.

When you need this

Your container made it to port. We keep it moving.

  • 01A container is arriving at one of the five Vancouver-area port facilities and it has to be picked up inside the terminal's reservation window.
  • 02You are a forwarder or importer without your own trucking in the Lower Mainland or on the Island.
  • 03The box is headed to Vancouver Island and the crossing has to be booked around the pickup, not after it.
  • 04You want the empty returned without chasing anyone.

How it works

From the first call to the last handoff

  1. Step 1

Tell us the container and the vessel

We confirm availability, the terminal and the reservation window before anything is booked.

  2. Step 2

    We book the pickup

Terminal reservation, chassis and driver, planned backward from where the container has to be next.

  3. Step 3

The container moves to its next leg

A Lower Mainland receiver, a transload partner, or the Mainland barge terminal for the Island crossing.

  4. Step 4

    We close the loop

Delivery confirmation and the empty return, in the same plan.

On Vancouver Island

For Island-bound containers, drayage and the crossing are one plan: port pickup, Mainland barge terminal, commercial barge to Duke Point or Swartz Bay, Kattz tractor, receiver.

What you get

What changes for you

  • One point of contact for the port leg.
  • Pickups planned around the reservation window, not around our truck.
  • The Island crossing booked in the same conversation.
  • Dwell and no-show costs avoided by planning early.

FAQ

Questions about this service

Which Vancouver terminals do you pick up from?

Kattz coordinates pickups at five Vancouver-area port facilities, and at the Surrey and Pitt Meadows rail ramps where a move involves rail. Port truck access requires the terminal's reservation system, so we plan the pickup around the window the terminal gives us. Beyond Vancouver, we also pick up at the ports of Montreal, Halifax and Saint John.

Can you take a container to Vancouver Island?

Yes. The container rides from the port to the Mainland barge terminal, crosses the Strait of Georgia on the commercial barge, and is picked up by a Kattz tractor at Duke Point or Swartz Bay for delivery anywhere on the Island.

What do I need to send you for a drayage rate?

The container number or size, the terminal it is arriving at, where it needs to go, when it needs to be there, and anything unusual about how the receiver takes freight. If you don't have all of it yet, send what you have.
