Specialized Freight

Specialized and unusual freight

Oversize, over-dimension, direct-discharge and otherwise non-standard loads, planned from the physical facts rather than the rate sheet.

Unusual size, awkward equipment constraints, difficult receiving conditions, or a shipment that does not fit the standard playbook: bring us the problem before assuming it cannot be moved. Freight doesn't always read the plan. That is where experience matters.

When you need this

Have something weird? Good. Talk to us.

  • 01The load is over height, over width or over length.
  • 02It needs direct discharge from the vessel to the truck.
  • 03It needs an unusual trailer, specialized handling, or a route with clearance to check.
  • 04Another carrier has already said no.

How it works

From the first call to the last handoff

  1. Step 1

Tell us what it is, with dimensions if you have them

Photos help. So does the receiver's address.

  2. Step 2

    We work the constraint

Route, equipment, clearance, timing, and the partners the move needs.

  3. Step 3

    We move it

With a plan built from the physical facts, not the rate sheet.

  4. Step 4

We tell you what we learned

So the next one is easier.

On the job

When the plan stops working, we start working.

What you get

What changes for you

  • A plan built from the physical facts.
  • Forty-five years of knowing what to do when the plan changes.
  • Partners we have worked with for years, for the equipment we do not own.
  • Honesty about what cannot be done, early.

FAQ

Questions about this service

Can you move oversize loads on Vancouver Island?

Yes. Kattz plans oversize and over-dimension moves on the Island and in the Lower Mainland and coordinates the specialized equipment, routing and clearances they require, with partners where the move needs equipment we do not own.

Do you handle direct discharge from a vessel?

Yes. A direct discharge means the load comes off the ship straight onto the truck, which leaves no room for a second attempt. The boat that was inches too tall was a direct discharge.

What was the boat that was inches too tall?

A sailboat arriving from China had to be discharged directly from the vessel onto a truck, and the combined height was taller than the clearance on the route. Rather than treating it as impossible, the team lowered the load by carefully reducing the tire pressure until it cleared, with inches to spare. The shipment moved.
